Reading Entertainment Books Is a Waste of Time
Some parents call back that reading pleasure word of honors is a waste of time for children, they should save read educational books. What is your opinion? spend your rea intelligences and include your own or relative experience. It is recently asserted that instead of reading enjoyment books, children should only read the educational books payable to entertainment books waste children time, it is my personal belief that this assertion is built on the weak ground. There fork out following reasons for my opinion. One very strong argument is that entertainment book is better for children to acknowledge learning. or one thing, entertainment book will carry more than entropy which not only include traditional educational, but also have more other intrinsic acknowledge, such as imagination, Independent Thinking, a study carried out in more than 1000 prepare covering 1500 children between 7 to 15 years old show that educational book is chiefly focus on examination and passively receiving knowledge, it is unbelievable if our children just win education passively, they have not any idea about fresh thing in this world, more important, children need more opportunity to choice different book type, in other word, every people need receive a variety of acknowledge if they want to growth healthy in childhood, it is no doubt that oneness educational book cant fulfill the requirement of children.Another factor we have to consider is that children read entertainment books is beneficial to family, on the one hand, absolutely it is sweet time when parent company with children to read entertainment until children sleep, it is believe that children will have more strong safe feel when they are adult. On another(prenominal) hand, entertainment book will give more communication topics that will help to parent frustrate the gap between children. take me as an example, I am used to read my sons entertainment books due to some internet word or sentence I need learn from these books, thus my son think his father is same kind guy because we have same language and we have goodly communication result based on entertainment book, it is impossible if we just talk about educational book. in conclusion, children should read some entertainment books due to it is not waste time, instead, it have positive beguile on children growth and family building.

Only the second part of the assignment needs to be done which is the final individual share portfolio review. The company is Tesco.
IntroductionThis report entrust conclude on the performance of Tesco Plc. over the previous 5-months. Performance will be based on the shargon- charge performance, company reports as well as a comparison between J Sainsbury Plc, Morrison Plc and U.S rival Wal-mart. study Headwinds RemainPrice Competition addicted the current environment, aggressive competition in the UK grocery market is the greatest headwind to continued growth. According to Kantar Worldpanel (2014) Tesco continues to tolerate market-sh be as aggressive competition from discount brands Aldi and Lidl pushes greater emphasis on Tescos marketing and price strategy to retain custom as both competitors plans major elaboration plans in the coming years. To add, major price competition from the likes of ASDA and now Morrisons is gaining momentum once once more, (BBC Business, 2014) Online. Morrisons aggressive plan to unload GBP1bn on overturnting prices over tether years will put pressure on Tesco and opposite supe rmarket operators to respond in assure to protect market share. This could accelerate margin erosion across the sphere of influence in 2014Morrisons price cuts are likely to be funded by planned cost nest egg and potentially by accepting a lower margin, (Fitch Rating, 2014). They are more aggressive than the GBP1bn initiative Asda announce in November, which at the time was to be spread over five years. To limit the doctor on margins, retailers will probably respond by accelerating cost cutting initiatives and investment in product ranges and stemma formats. Tesco has the strongest margin, but this has been shrinking for several years, (Financial Times, 2014) Online. It may now be pushed to rethink its pricing in order to defend market share, which has come under pressure as evidenced by weak 2013 Christmas trading. Furthermore, the higher up could dampen CAPEX plans for the coming years.Rise of DiscountersAs mentioned, the recent Kantar Worlpanel (2014) report cemented the r ise of Aldi and Lidl however recent reports from Tesco have attempted to derogate the holy terror, with little success. The CEO referred to them as niche players, (Tesco, 2013). However, these players control 45% of the affluent German market and are market leaders in several other large countries. We would not compare the effectiveness and the threat posed by Aldi in 2014 with that posed by Kwik Safe (disappeared) in the 1990s. It is not an informative map in our view. CAPEX remains strongCAPEX guidance was cut to a maximum of ?2.5bn per annum, in line with market expectations. Tesco plans to cut new seat additions in the UK to 700,000 sq ft in 2014/15 from 1.4mn in 2013/14. CAPEX is shifting from new space to maintenance. Having invested ?400mn in the UK Refresh programme in 2013/14, the company plans to invest ?500mn per annum in each of the next three years. This is close to ?2bn in total to complete the programme. The priority for next year is re-modelling the Extra format where the gross gross revenue performance is the weakest, (Tesco, 2013).Online growth MixedA lot of focus, as expected, has been put on the increasing movement online. With Morrisons considering and online platform, time Waitrose moves in with more products and free economy.Tesco announced it will reduce the fee it charges for home delivery and track & collect. While it is good that the company aims to be competitive, excessive cuts in the delivery charge would reduce margins and likewise incentivise the customer to order smaller quantities more frequently, making the economics a lot less attractive. The delivery charge is a tool used to distribute demand among the different time slots and days of the week. Tesco expose ?127Million of trading profit from online grocery (?2.5bn sales), (Tesco, 2013), suggesting a 5% margin. According to the company, all direct costs are fully charged, that is the cost of the pickers and the delivery, (Tesco, 2013). This would not include things such as store depreciation, store energy costs, rate etc. Given this, on estimated 25Million annual orders of ?100 each, the delivery fee (?4-5 per order) would account for the great majority of profit. If this delivery fee is substantially cut, so will the profit obtained. piece of land PerformanceGraph mete out Price Performance of Selected Companies 6-Month. Data obtained from Bloomberg (2014) Online.Focusing on share performance (Graph 1), over the previous 6-months, Tesco Plc is down(a) by 18.3%, however performance is still between than W.M. Morrison and J Sainsbury, whose shares have fell by 24.2% and 19.9% respectively. Given this the grocery sector has been a weak performer on the market, apt(p) that the FTSE 100 has risen by 2% over the same period. Weakness in the sector was seen on the 12th litigate (circled), afterwards the market release from Kantar Worldpanel (2014).According to Kantar Worldpanel (2014), Tescos market share dropped to 28.7% in the 12 weeks end ed March 2. That compares to 29.6% a year ago and is the lowest level since late 2004. Adding to the companys woes, Tescos sales were down 0.6 percent in the three-month period. The main issue for investors was the movement of these sales to discounters Aldi and Lidl, plus upmarket grocer Waitrose.Morrisons also loosened further to a share of 11.1% from 11.8% a year earlier, while ASDA, a hyponym of Wal-Mart Stores eased to 17.5%, a 0.3 point fall Y-O-Y. Sainsburys was the only grocer among Britains big four to post on to its market share in the period, reaming at 17%, (Kantar Worldpanel, 2014). The report noted that the big-four where competing more for a shrinking middle-ground as consumers move to either discounters or upmarket retailers over the past 3-years, Waitrose, Aldi and Lidl have interpreted a combined 3.5 points from competition, equating to ?4.4Billion in sales per year, (Kantar Worldpanel, 2014).Taking an international look, while Wal-Mart did record a small drop o n the 12th March, over the 6-month period its shares are up 3%, wedded its exposure to the U.S economy, which has been performing strongly, supported by consumer spending. heavysetWhile the recovery in the UK economy will present opportunities for Tesco Plc, given its exposure to consumer spending through an extensive product offering, major headwinds remain as the continued expansion of discounters pose a real threat, contrary to the thoughts of Tesco management. Furthermore the price-wars between major retailers commence once again for the shrinking middle-ground of the market, margins are expected to be hit. This has the potential to derail Tescos expansion plans, which will impact on future performance given aggressive competition.ReferencesBBC Business (2014) Online Morrisons restructuring sparks fears of new price war, UK, BBC News.Bloomberg (2014) Online Share Price Data, Available at http//www.bloomberg.com/markets/, Accessed 27/03/2014.Financial Times (2014) Online Tesco P lc, Available at http//markets.ft.com/research/Markets/Tearsheets/Summary?s=TSCOLSE, Accessed 27/03/2014.Fitch Rating (2014) Morrisons price cuts to pressure Tesco margins at risk, UK, Fitch Ratings Agency.Kantar Worldpanel (2014) peculiar change in grocery retailing, UK, Kantar Worldpanel.Tesco (2013) Annual Review 2013, UK, Tesco Plc.

LUV is Southwests NYSE symbol, selected to gibe the societys home at Dallas Love Field, as well as the theme of Southwests employee and guest relationships Within 30 years, Southwest Airlines has become the fifth largest major airline company in the States. It rate of flowly operates 520 Boeing 737s thr oughout the United States. The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of guest improvement delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and company spirit. It primarily provides short haul, high-frequency, point-to-point, low-fare air transportation service in the United States. The company essentially functions as a point-to-point operation rather than a hub and spoke service like its competitors. This provides for a unique free-enterprise(a) service, which has lead this company to be a strong propelr within the industry. The major success to their continued success is due to their low-cost model, as compared to their competitors, which allows Southwest airlines to tell itself from the competition and perpetuates its success and popularity among consumers. When we look at southwestern airlines competitive environment using porters five forces we get hold that the bargaining powers of Customers in the airlines industry have man y options and are price sensitive. If driving is cheaper than flying southwest may lose clients. There are withal over 100 carriers in the U. S. commercialise thereof there are many options for customers. The bargaining power of suppliers Southwest is at the mercy of the labor Unions and gasconade suppliers. If these costs become too high then price raises will mandatory. The threat of new entrants With so many major airlines going bankrupt there is a large supply of airplanes and personnel. This means that it is easier than invariably to start up and airline and try and compete with Southwest. The threat of substitute products Flying has very few substitutes in the U. S. market if you need to be somewhere in a hurry. However there are new(prenominal) forms of transportation including busses, trains, and cars. The intensity of competitive rivalry There is intense industry competition. Every travel guidebook is hotly contested with price wars and a grab for customers.Price sh ores are low, and airlines need to be capable to trim costs any way they sens. Southwestern airlines has got the following strengths Southwests commitment to customer service has led to an excellent track record. They held the unofficial Triple Crown in customer service for three resultant years. The Triple Crown consists in being the best in on time performance, baggage handling, and customer satisfaction. This is an amazing feat chartering no some other airlines have held all three components for a single month. Southwest has a major advantage over other airlines because it operates a single type of plane, the Boeing 737.This means that all their pilots, facilities, and crews are trained on any plane that Southwest owns. Southwest also operates a drop dead with an average age of 7 years. This means that they have less maintenance problems, and this leads to fewer delays, and higher customer service. Sensible expansion policy. Southwest has developed a very sensible strategy f or expansion, paying point attention non to strain the balance sheet. It has also achieved a national presence through flights to 59 airports in 58 cities. Southwest has been able to become a national airline by strategicalal expansion to airports where there is less competition. For example, it opened a major operation at Baltimore-Washington International and and then avoided the presence of other major airlines at Reagan National and Dulles. The continued growth of the Company is testament to the strategic direction taken by management, break inicularly considering the difficult business environment. Southwest relies on direct slate booking and does not heavily utilize travel agents this is a cost stay freshr. They also do not have full food service on their flights, leading to a faster turnaround. Southwest also has a unique open seating system, with no assigned seats the planes load faster.Due to a change in passenger profile, business class and startle class seats have suffered declining demand. many another(prenominal) companies have been forced to put in low-cost fare options. Since southwest has been an industry leader and ahead of the bend in providing low cost, standardized travel options, it has no need to change strategy, thus saving on restructuring costs. The Company also benefits from its long establishment in the low-cost airline market, allowing the Company to capitalize on significant customer awareness of the brand. Southwest has a highly efficient operation. The Company was first to introduce to the Airline industry the ten-minute turnaround (between arrival at the gate and departure). This has subsequently increased demand for short flight routes. Strong financials. Southwest has the strongest market capitalization and balance sheet of all rivals in the sector. A market capitalization of $14,022 million accounts for twice the market capitalization of the five largest rivals put together. In the current volatile market, it should allow southwest to overcome short-term downturns in demand more Successfully than the other main carriers. The continued ability of Southwest to produce positive results highlights it among rivals. 2003 saw quarter-over-quarter increases in income, representing 51 ensuant quarterly profit rises. R planeues for the full year 2003, which were $5,937 million, increased 7. 5% against 2002 revenues. Southwest does not fly into major hub airports in most cities, this leads to rase gate costs, less congestion, and quicker turnaround times. Southwest has been marketed as the low price leader, and their planes have been painted in funky colors.Southwest views its major competition as the elevator car and not other airlines. Southwest airlines operate a single type of plane B737 in an all coach configuration. They do not offer meals, and do no transfer bags to other airlines leading to refuse operating costs. The airline has won the Triple Crown and is setting the industry standard in cus tomer service. Southwest has come chthonic intense competition from United. They are not a full service airline and do not offer the amenities and services for international travelers. They also do not have a higher cost first class option on their planes.Marketing. Southwest is a low-cost carrier. They provide themselves on cost efficiencies, which enable them to offer good service at lower prices to the customer than their competitors. Their marketing strategy was to convey the message that what Southwest had to offer was of value. Southwest markets itself as the only major short-hop, low-fare, and point-to-point carrier in the U. S. airline industry. Their marketing style is known for being unconventional, unique, unpredictable, and attention-getting in order to create and reinforce the Companys maverick and fun-loving, combative image. They continually look for shipway to make their distinctive image come alive and strike a spark in the minds of the consumer. Finance. In the y ear 2000, Southwest reported its 28th consecutive year of profitability as well as its ninth consecutive year of increased profits. In many years, Southwest was reporting profits magic spell many other airline companies were reporting losses. Southwest is able to celebrate and increase their profit margin by keeping costs low, being highly efficient, and creatively cutting costs. One of Southwests most important strategies is keeping its costs low and moving customers in above-average times. In an effort to move customers along quickly, Southwest tries to avoid congested airports. Southwest also encourages passengers to make reservations and ticket purchases through their website. By serving littler airports near major metropolitan areas and in medium-sized cities, Southwest is able to produce better-than-average on-time performance, as well as reducing burn down costs of idle planes waiting for clearance to land.Serving smaller airports also lowers landing fees and terminal gate costs. Southwests operative principal is employees come first and customers come second. Southwest employees are hired for military strength and trained for skill. The Companys strategy is that it can train people to do the tasks and hold the skills that are required, but a persons attitude is not something that can be changed. The hiring process involves an interviewing approach called Target Selection, which aims at matching peoples traits (or target dimensions) for performing a specific job successfully.New hires are trained at Southwest University for People. Managers trained in this program take leadership courses that emphasize a management style base on coaching and encouraging rather than supervising or enforcing rules. The Company has the lowest turnover rate in the industry, which may be partly due to the fact that 80% to 90% of supervisory typesets are filled internally. However just like any organization, despite the fact that they have strengths, south west also ha s weaknesses which include Little room for strategic development. The main weakness of the Company results from operating in a highly competitive market, one that is increasingly susceptible to a volatile political environment. The airline industry is highly competitive as to fares, frequent flier benefits, routes, and service. Some carriers competing with Southwest have larger pop offs and a more established brand name. Many carry passengers from the major hubs in the U. S. , holding long-standing relationships with come upon airports. To enter these markets, the corporate strategy of Southwest will have to be adjusted. No established alliances. genuine major U. S. irlines have established marketing alliances with each other, including Northwest Airlines/Continental Airlines, American Airlines/Alaska Airlines and Continental Airlines/America West Airlines. In 2001, AMR Corp. , parent of American Airlines, completed its acquisition of the assets of Trans World Airlines. This puts enormous strain on the Company to maintain its position in the industry while running a smaller fleet. amply valued share price. contempt Southwest holding the strongest financial position in the airline industry, the breed of the Company is considered fully valued, particularly in the short term. This will disconcert the investor searching for quick gains resulting in the potential loss of capital to its competitors. The strong financial position will apply pressure to the strategic direction of the Company, forcing the directors of Southwest to consciously pursue the same level of growth if they are to maintain investor confidence. South west airlines have got the following opportunities Southwests great opportunity is directly related to its greatest strength to continue to develop its low-cost position in the airline industry.Southwest must maintain an emphasis on low-cost flying, and brand association that has served it well so far. After September 11, customer numbers dwin dled due to consumer fears over flying. One way the Company hopes to regain the trust of the public is through lower airfare. In 2002, no fare was more than $399. However, in August 2002, the company reduced fares even further, grievous last-minute fares while maintaining the full schedule of frequent flights in order to further chivy travel. As of 2003 Southwest was offering fares as low as $39. The company must keep prices as low as possible in order to stimulate demands, and look to edistribute expenses through other areas. revenant streamlining and automation is necessary in order to both aid in cost-cutting and maintain the competitive advantage on which the company brand is based. Southwest has expanded ticket counters and security checkpoints and has increased its airport workforce. The embarkation process has been streamlined through replacing the traditional plastic boarding card system with an automated one, and the carrier is in the process of rolling out new self ch eck-in technology. This should result in a reduction of boarding times, and contrast sharply with those carriers that still have extensive queuing.Expand geographically. The market share Southwest holds has grown substantially, particularly since 9/11. Fifty percent of the centerfield market is under control of Southwest and this is expanding. With the increase in the number of cities and networks to which it is linked, southwest could begin to target large metropolis markets and with such a strong brand name, both marketing and PR costs will reduce. Furthermore, the clock appears perfect, if it wishes to capitalize on the pressure currently endured by many of the established carriers. Southwest could strengthen its position through an alliance. Many competitors have reduced share price due to poor financials. Southwest could ferment this through a merger or a favorable acquisition. This could provide an easier route into the major hubs and pull away many of the challenges associa ted with entering new markets. A major threat comes from the unstable airline industry as the result of the 9/11 attacks. Immediately after the terrorist attacks, and in the face of falling demand for air service, most major carriers announced significant service reduction, grounded aircraft, and reduced employee levels. These events negatively impacted industry profits. Despite the absence of subsequent attacks, the political environment remains unstable, throwing into question the airlines ability to make long-range strategic plans. Following 9/11, Southwest was able to offset losses through lower jet fuel prices and internal cost reduction initiatives. However, there can be no assurance that Southwest will be able to continue to offset future cost increases resulting from the changing commercial airline environment. other threat derives from the Company being subject to varying degrees of competition from surface transportation in its short-haul markets, particularly the private a utomobile. The short-haul air services that compete with surface transportation regard price as a competitive factor for customers. Similarly, frequency and convenience of scheduling, facilities, transportation safety and security procedures, and customer service may be of equal or greater importance to many passengers. These can limit the number of customers who adopt southwest. However, southwest airlines need to put up the following strategies it necessitate to launch a new promotional campaign. They need to remind customers in the California market that they are the winner of the Triple Crown, and that low cost means high service and customer satisfaction when it comes to Southwest. With lower turnaround times, and fewer delayed flights southwest has great unique selling points. They just need to remind the public about how great an Airline they are. This can be done with more TV ads, and more sponsorship of major sporting events. Southwest also needs to continue to be southwes t.They have a winning business model, and have made property every year of their existence. They cannot abandon what their core competencies are. They need to keep prices where they are, or even lower prices, and they say that fact to the public. Southwest airlines have been able to successfully implement its fuel hedging strategy to save on fuel expenses in a big way and have the largest hedging position among other carriers. In the second quarter of 2005, Southwests unit costs fell by 3. 5% despite a 25% increase in jet fuel costs. During Fiscal year 2003, southwest had much lower fuel expense (0. 12 per ASM) compared to the other airlines with the exception of JetBlue as illustrated in prove 1 below. In 2005, 85 per cent of the airlines fuel needs has been hedged at $26 per barrel. World oil prices in August 2005 reached $68 per barrel. In the second quarter of 2005 alone, Southwest achieved fuel savings of $196 million. The state of the industry also suggests that airlines th at are hedged have a competitive advantage over the non-hedging airlines. Southwest announced in 2003 that it would add performance-enhancing Blended Winglets to its current and future fleet of Boeing 737-700s.The visually distinctive Winglets will improve performance by extending the airplanes range, saving fuel, lowering engine maintenance costs, and reducing takeoff noise. In an overall effort to improve customers in-flight experience, in-flight entertainment is something that Southwest is currently evaluating and which JetBlue has been very successful at already because of its introduction in its long-haul flights. In comparison, Southwest has 415 airplanes to consider and that represents an investment decision at a whole new dimension. Additionally, Southwest has to consider how things may fit into their environment. At this point, 60% of its service is still very short haul. Southwest needs to be mindful of the fact that a certain approach that has been successful for its compe titor may not be necessarily work to its advantage. In summary, Southwest has long been regarded as a benchmark in its industry for operational excellence. Southwest Airlines is a fine example of a company that is committed to its core competencies efficient operations to drive its low cost structure, outstanding delivery of customer service and forward-looking HR management practices. We hope this paper provided a good insight into Southwest operations, as part of its overall strategy, to achieve success and gain competitive advantage. Black People and Roberta Essay
Determining the race of Twyla and Roberta from the clouded descriptions in Recitatif is a rather difficult task. The exhibit in my opinion leads me to believe that Roberta is white and that Twyla is bootleg. In this paper I will identify situations in this story that reinforce my opinion. I will also explain how minority group treatment influenced my apprehension of the events in this story. My early impression of Roberta was that of a spoiled country girl with little or no education that opinion was based on her inability to read and her barbarian of aliment at meal times.Finishing all your food is a strong force in many black families this waste tolerate be construed as a connection to Roberta being white. The first verbal indication is Robertas mothers refusal to greet Twylas mother Mary. This is a strong image of prejudice in my opinion. Robertas mother said nonhing. She just grabbed Roberta and stepped out of line. Robertas mothers disinterest in meeting a woman of the o pposite race makes a convincing argument that she is white and in her mind better than associating with blacks. In the next scene the families were eating Lunch. Twyla made the observation that The wrong food is eternally with the wrong plenty. And the connection that Maybe thats why I got into waitress work later-to partner up the right people with the right food. There is a common stereotype that black people love chicken. So the white Roberta having the black chicken could be considered a Mitch match and since Roberta is white she should not have the chicken. The next piece of evidence comes much later when the two old friends atomic number 18 reunited in a supermarket. They have exchanged pleasantries and discussed how well there lives are going. It is obvious to the reader that Roberta is well move out financially. Roberta makes the comment I was dying to chouse what happened to her, how she got from Jimi Hendrix to Annandale, a neighborhood full of doctors and IBM execut ives. Easy, I thought. Everything is so cushy for them. They think they own the world. This statement shows that Twyla is aware of how hands-down it is for white people to raise their economic class. It can be implied that Roberta made the large advance because she was of the proper white race to make such advancement. The lowest piece of evidence is When Twyla confronts Roberta on her poor behavior at their encounter in Howard Johnsons Roberta says Oh, Twyla, you know how it was in those days black-white. You know how everything was. Roberta here identifies the strong pressure she felt from her peers to not associate with the note black race. My first indication of Twylas race was the way her mother Mary introduced herself. She used the idiom Twyyyyyla, baby the term baby is commonly associated with older black females. Marys reaction to Robertas mothers refusal to shake hands coupled with the loud outbursts on the way to the chapel are also part of what society has deemed as black female behavior. Mary is described wearing those suffering green slacks that made her behind stick out There is a stereotype that black women have large behinds. These examples leads me believe Robertas mother is black and so the daughter must be of the same race.Throughout the story Roberta is always depicted in a lower class than Roberta always overshadowed by Roberta. Roberta marries into a higher social standing and has an implied superiority throughout the story. The statement Everything is so easy for them. They think they own the world. Is a common opinion about the social standing of whites in the fall in States. There are a lot of conflicting data to for both sides of this argument. In my opinion though there is much more evidence that leads the reader to believe that Roberta is white and Twyla is black.

Writing, therefore, seems to me to be an art that empennage only be mastered through practice. When it comes to writing, I recall that at first, I had a job developing anything from the notes and points that I had written down. This was originally due to numerous grammatical and lexical mistakes that made my writing rather incomprehensible. The first assignment comprised many of these mistakes and using the feedback obtained from the tutor, I was able to improve on this and make my writing better. In my second assignment, the tutor apparently recognized my improved writing skills and positively commented on that. I was happy to realize that my efforts were recognized. I later conferred with a few of my friends and realized that I could to a fault get some positive feedback from them. For instance, from one of them, I learned how to arrange ideas into a coherent piece that was better than my previous papers. What mattered to me during all this time was that I was improving my writing skills and was getting more convinced(p) with myself every time.
